It's Features

One of the best things for those that love tools is that the Navigon 7100 gives you a number of accessories. You get all that you need to set up the GPS right out of the box including a USB cable and the software installation CD you'll need. You also get an AC power cable.

The design of the Navigon 7100 is slightly larger than other GPS units, although the screen size, at 4.3 inches is similar to other devices. Along the top are two GB SD card slots. The screen is bright enough that it can handle even bright sunlight. During the evening, the brightness comes down to make the screen manageable in the dark. The touch screen works well, too. The battery life of the device is 4.5 hours, which is definitely longer than many other models.

Another area that the Navigon 7100 does well with is navigation to addresses. This is the most common way that people use their GPS units and this device is a good, usable option. There are two ways to look up an address using the device, such as by moving from the "New Destination" to "enter an address" function right from the main menu. The other option allows for a longer, step-by-step process. Either way works well.

Many good GPS units have a standard number of POI, or point of interest locations available to navigate to. The Navigon 7100 also has this feature. You can find a variety of categories to choose from, including nightlife, golf, and restaurants. They also list hotels using Zagat. If there is a point of interest you are interested in not included with Zagat, not to worry, many others are included in the device, including parking, gas stations, sports locations, schools, health care, post offices, marinas, business facilities, border crossings; the list goes on.

The quality of the graphics really helps to set the Navigon 7100 apart from others. They are very sharp and the display is well done, you'll notice when you start navigating using it. The screen displays as much information as you would like (you can configure it to include as much or as little as you would like.) This includes street names, compass, remaining distance, arrival time, coordinates, speed limits, and other information.

Another feature of the device, called Reality View allows you to have a 3D image of the interchanges, with the hopes of helping you to navigate where you need to be to get on or off the freeway. This is an essential tool to have for those traveling to unknown areas with heavy interchanges.
